Congratulations to our very own Luke Lomoriello for an outstanding cross-country season!
Luke dominated the local competitions he competed in and then went on to represent Hobbs at the state level. On Saturday morning, he ran in the Public School Division of the FLYRA Middle School XC Championship in Lakeland, where he achieved a personal best time of 10:16 and placed 8th out of 273 public school athletes who competed in the 3K state championship race!
Luke, you are an incredible example of excellence, perseverance, and tenacity. Hobbs is so proud of you—way to go! We can’t wait to see what heights you reach next year as an 8th grader! 💚

🎃🕸️ Happy Halloween, Jaguars! 🕸️🎃
What an incredible time we had at our Happy Halloween Dance! 👻🪩 Thank you to everyone who came out to support this SGA fundraiser — your participation helps make so many of our student activities possible!
Our SGA members put in lots of hard work behind the scenes to plan, decorate, and run events like this… but we love to have fun, too! 💪🎉 From spooky costumes to great music and tons of smiles, this dance was a perfect mix of school spirit and good times.
Thank you again for showing up, dressing up, and making it a night to remember! 🧡🖤

Students in Ms. Cullina’s ELA class took collaboration to the next level this week as they explored Ray Bradbury’s “Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed.” Using a Jigsaw strategy, students became topic experts—each group analyzing different literary elements such as theme, setting, conflict, and character transformation.
After diving deep into their assigned sections, students shared their expertise with peers, piecing together a fuller understanding of how Bradbury uses science fiction to explore change, identity, and adaptation. This activity showcased strong WICOR connections—students practiced collaborative learning, engaged in inquiry by asking thought-provoking questions, and built deeper reading comprehension through discussion and synthesis.
WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) strategies make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun—and at Hobbs, this is the type of hands-on, rigorous learning your students will experience! 🙌📚🔑

Jaguar families, Federal Impact Aid Survey Forms are due back to your child’s school no later than Wednesday, November 12. Please complete all sections of the form, including your child’s name, address, date of birth, and grade. This information helps us identify federally connected students so our district can qualify for federal funding. All information is kept confidential, and these funds are critical to supporting our students. Thank you for your prompt attention and for supporting Santa Rosa County District Schools.

Good afternoon Jaguar families!
1. Report cards are now ready to be viewed through the Focus portal. Report cards have been published to both the parent AND student portal.

Good afternoon, Jaguar families and students, this message is for any student who purchased a ticket for the Hobbs Middle School Happy Halloween Dance. Please read closely if this is you, for a few procedural announcements about the dance:
1. Students will receive their dance ticket in their 6th period class. All ticket holders will remain in their classrooms at dismissal. Once the non-attendees have cleared the hallways for dismissal, we will start calling students to the cafeteria.
2. The dance will end at 4:00 PM. Please arrive promptly at 4:00 PM to pick-up your student.
3. Pick-up will occur on our bus rider ramp. We will have staff to direct traffic to this location, starting at 3:45 PM.
4. Once the bus ramp is full, secondary pick-up will begin through normal car rider procedures. Staff will redirect you to the car rider line if the bus ramp is full.
5. Finally, please remember the costume expectations: for students who purchased a costume ticket, costumes must be school appropriate (no masks, no toy weapons, no dress that is a disruption to the classroom environment, must be in dress code, students may wear hats). Also, nothing that is bloody or gory. Think fun, not scary.
Thank you!
Jaguar parents and guardians and families, tomorrow at Hobbs we will celebrate Unity Day, in support of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We will be teaching your students about these things, as well as how to get help when someone isn’t kind, accepting, or inclusive.
Now, we need your help! Please review and reinforce these expectations at home with your students. If students don’t get a consistent message from us at school and you at home, it makes it much harder for them (and us) to be successful.
Attached is the presentation we will review with all students. Feel free to use it as you talk to your students about kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Finally, students … don’t forget to wear your orange! WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying!
Thank you!

In Mr. Leard’s science classes, our students kicked off a new learning adventure with the SLAT method, and it’s been amazing to see them dive deep into inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking! 👏
We started by exploring the SLAT framework—using Agree/Disagree cards, Summarizing Thinking mats, and team roles to practice clear communication and argumentation. 💬💡 The big question of the day: “What animal makes the best pet and why?” 🐶🐱 Students worked together, voiced their opinions, and learned how to respectfully challenge each other's ideas.
Today, the focus shifted to team-building as students created their own team norms. They worked in groups to establish expectations around collaboration, active listening, and respectful dialogue. These norms will be key in creating a supportive and productive classroom environment as we dive deeper into the content this week. 👫🤝
By the end of the week, students will be using the SLAT method to tackle real content-based questions, putting everything they’ve learned into practice. 🚀 Stay tuned for more updates as they continue to grow their WICOR skills—Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading! 📚✨

Tickets for the dance are $5. Presold concession tickets will also be available ($2/each). Students can buy tickets for sodas, candy, and chips. We will have a variety to choose from at the dance.
Finally, any student can purchase a ticket to wear their Halloween costume to school that day (all costumes must be school appropriate). Costume tickets will be sold at the same time as dance tickets, $2 for a costume ticket. Please see the file attached for the Halloween dress up expectations.

School spirit is one of the things that makes Hobbs Middle School so special! Participating in events like the Homecoming Parade helps build pride, unity, and lifelong memories for our students.
If your student enjoys showing their school pride and getting involved, encourage them to consider joining one of our school spirit organizations next year — such as Band or SGA.
And a huge congratulations to our Student Government Association (SGA) for winning Most Creative Float at this year’s parade! Way to represent Hobbs Middle with pride and imagination!

WICOR in Action: ESOL & World Languages Collaboration
At Hobbs Middle School, 8th grade students can take Spanish 1 for high school credit through our broadcast classroom, taught by Mrs. Mahoney at Holley-Navarre Middle School and supported locally by Mrs. Mayes. For Hispanic Heritage Month, students used WICOR strategies—Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading—to research and present on inspiring Hispanic figures.
They collaborated with James, one of our ESOL students, who helped them practice in both English and Spanish, offering pronunciation tips and encouragement. This project showcased how WICOR connects students across programs and builds real-world communication skills!
