Jaguar students, staff, and families!
Hobbs Middle School proudly hosted today its first AVID Career Day, giving students the opportunity to hear from professionals representing a wide range of careers. One of the most significant impacts of our AVID program is building students’ opportunity knowledge, and today’s Career Day helped expose students to real people working in a variety of professions. Each guest speaker shared valuable insight about their career path, education, and experiences in their field. Through AVID, this is the type of authentic, real-world learning students experience at Hobbs Middle School.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our guest speakers who helped make this event such a success:
⭐ Lt. Melanie Roger – Miami-Dade Fire Department
⭐ Shawn Housh – Welder
⭐ Brad Davis – Pilot, American Airlines
⭐ 1st Lt. William Ratajczyk – United States Marine Corps
⭐ Greg Brown – Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser
⭐ Kim Gonzalez – Department of Homeland Security
⭐ Christopher Brown – Radiology Manager, HCA West Florida Hospital
Your willingness to share your time, knowledge, and experiences helped inspire our AVID students and provided them with a meaningful look at the many opportunities available to them in the future.
We are grateful for your support and look forward to continuing this new tradition of AVID Career Day at Hobbs Middle School! 💚

We are so proud to celebrate the students who advanced to Round 3 of the Amazing Shake! Your hard work, confidence, and professionalism truly stood out.
For those who may be new to it, the Amazing Shake is a dynamic competition that challenges students to master real-world skills like professional greetings, effective communication, critical thinking, poise under pressure, and problem-solving. Participants navigate a series of fast-paced, real-life scenarios—everything from mock interviews to teamwork challenges—designed to build character, leadership, and confidence.
Round 2 challenged students to step outside their comfort zones as they delivered 30–60 second elevator pitches, evaluated by local business and industry leaders. It was an incredibly close and competitive round. Round 3 will raise the bar even higher, as students prepare to participate in live panel interviews with top leadership from NAS Whiting Field.

Ms. Jones’ 7th grade ELA students put WICOR into action as they analyzed two passages to determine which author presented the more convincing argument. Through close reading, students identified claims, evaluated evidence, and organized their thinking before defending their positions with clear, text-based support.
Using the SLAT platform, students collaborated in real time—asking thoughtful questions, respectfully challenging each other’s ideas, and pushing one another toward deeper analysis. A great example of Reading, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Writing all working together to strengthen student learning!
WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) strategies make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun—and at Hobbs, this is the type of hands-on, rigorous learning your students will experience! 🙌📚🔑
