Jaguar Parents and Families,

At Hobbs, we believe that no student should ever worry about going hungry. A full stomach means a ready mind, and making sure our Jaguars are fed is one of the most important ways we can support their success.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Feeding the Gulf Coast to provide weekend food backpacks for our students. This program is open to all students, no questions asked and no income requirements—because every child deserves the security of knowing there’s food at home.

🍎 Weekend Food Backpacks
• First distribution: Friday, September 4
• Each backpack includes food to help stretch meals at home and snacks for two days.
• Sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/2nfzyxxp

🥫 Hobbs Food Pantry
In addition, our on-campus food pantry provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food, snacks, drinks, toiletries, and personal hygiene items.
• Available weekdays (focused on dinner items).
• Available weekends (via backpacks).
• Support can be provided once, occasionally, or all year long.

✨ Most important: Do NOT go hungry!
If your student—or your family—needs support with meals, please let us know. We are here to help in any way we can.

Jaguar Families,

Due to severe weather and lightning very close to our campus, we are temporarily delaying afternoon dismissal for the safety of our students and staff.

We will begin dismissal as soon as the storm and lightning have safely moved out of our immediate area. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize everyone’s safety.

Please stay tuned for additional updates. 💚

Good afternoon, Jaguar students and families!

This is Brandon Koger, principal at Hobbs Middle School, with a very exciting announcement about an upcoming event at Hobbs.

We will be hosting Open House on Thursday, September 3rd, from 5:30–7:30 PM.

This will be a come-and-go event where you and your student can visit teachers at your own pace. You’ll have the chance to meet teachers, learn more about their classrooms, and see how to support your student’s success this year. Our administrative team will also be available throughout the evening to meet with families.

In addition, I will be giving a brief presentation in the cafeteria at 6:30 PM for anyone interested in learning more about our Title I program.

We anticipate large crowds, so please be mindful when deciding who to bring along in addition to your student.

We are excited about this event and look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 3rd, at 5:30 PM!

Good afternoon Jaguar families,

This letter is to inform you of Florida State Board of Education statute related to required instruction in health education topics for students in Grades K-12. Florida Statute 1003.42 requires school districts to develop a comprehensive, age-appropriate, and developmentally appropriate K-12 instruction for various topics including suicide prevention, substance use and abuse prevention, fentanyl awareness, dating violence, abstinence, resiliency, and child trafficking prevention education.

In accordance with Florida State Board of Education Rule 6A-1.094124, Required Instruction Planning and Reporting requires school districts to annually provide a minimum of five (5) hours of data-driven instruction to students in grades 6-12 related to civic and character education and life skills education through resiliency using the health education standards, including the social, emotional, and physical effects of social media.
We will begin these lessons this week, starting Friday, August 21st. Please click here https://aptg.co/PJfRmh to see the attached letter for information about this state mandated curriculum.

Hello Jaguar Families,

This is Brandon Koger, principal of Hobbs Middle School, with an important message for parents and families. We are conducting a lockdown drill at school today as part of our regular emergency drill process as required by state law. We know that drills can cause possible concerns for our students, but we believe it’s important for them to know exactly what to do in an emergency and these practice drills enhance their safety. Again, all students are safe, and this is simply a required lockdown drill. Thank you for your understanding and support.

🍎 At Hobbs Middle, one of our first goals is to make sure your students are ready to learn. While our resources may be limited, we will always seize opportunities to help feed our students and offer support wherever we can.

That’s why we’re partnering with Pace Assembly Ministries and Convoy of Hope to provide free bags of food for children ages 4–18 in need.

📄 To request a bag, complete an application here: https://tinyurl.com/5n662xyy. Once submitted, we will submit it to Pace Assembly.

All families selected will receive a voucher from us to receive their food bag. Someone from each family will take their voucher(s) to Pace Assembly of God between 8:00 and 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1st and will receive their food bags in return.

💡 While this is a one-time offering, we are working to partner again with Feeding the Gulf Coast to provide more regular food support for students experiencing food insecurity — more info to come on that.

Good afternoon, Jaguar parents and families,

This is Brandon Koger, principal at Hobbs Middle School, with a very important message regarding student safety.

Yesterday, during each lunch period, we reviewed with every student the procedures we have in place to keep them safe at school. The most important point: your student is safe at Hobbs Middle School. Every adult on campus is trained in emergency response. Classroom doors remain closed and locked. Exterior doors are monitored and controlled through visitor access protocols. We have a full-time Sheriff’s Deputy on campus during school hours, and all staff understand that our first responsibility is keeping students safe.

Because emergencies, unfortunately, do happen, please review the following procedures with your student:

Hide, Run, Fight: Stranger Danger

1. Hide: In the event of a lockdown, students will hide in classrooms. All classrooms are ALWAYS secured, and teachers will keep students safe.
2. Hide at lunch: In the event of a lockdown at lunch, we will HIDE.
3. Hide during class change: Students will enter the nearest classroom.
4. Run: Sometimes we must RUN. If you can’t get back to your classroom (e.g., you’re in the hallway going to the bathroom when the lockdown is called), RUN. Find an exterior door and RUN.
5. Run outdoors: During PE or outdoor activities, coaches will evacuate students from campus.
6. Fight: This is an adult response. The Sheriff’s Deputy and staff are trained to respond if needed.

Stranger Danger: Also, please reinforce with your students that they should NEVER open doors at school. I know it’s habit and polite to answer a knock at the door. But the ADULTS should be the ones to answer the doors. Unless you are given permission by an adult who has cleared the door, students should NOT open doors.

Reporting Safety Concerns:

Please reinforce with your students the GOOD ways to report information, and the BAD ways that lead to misinformation and rumor.

• Avoid social media, which can spread misinformation.
• Good: Use the Quick Links on our website to email administration.
• Better: Use FORTIFYFL on our website to submit a report.
• Best: Report directly to a trusted adult, such as a teacher or parent.

While no school can guarantee 100% safety, I assure you that Hobbs Middle School has systems, procedures, and trained staff in place. We practice these procedures regularly, and they are effective.

If you have any questions or concerns about safety, please contact me directly. Otherwise, now that safety has been reinforced, we will continue focusing on teaching and learning. 😊

Good afternoon, Jaguar families!

This is Brandon Koger, principal at Hobbs Middle School, welcoming you to the 2026–27 school year!

Just a reminder: the first day of school is tomorrow, Monday, August 10th. Doors open at 7:45 AM. Upon arrival, students should report either to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the multipurpose room until 8:10. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 to start first period, and dismissal is at 2:29 PM.

If your student has not yet received their schedule, they should visit the media center to pick it up.

Please know it may take a few days to settle into our routines. Lunch lines will be long, but every student will have enough time to eat—even if they need to stay a bit longer. Parent pick-up and bus lines may also be slower during the first week, especially with afternoon buses running late. Students riding the bus in the afternoon, especially, will be late coming home the first few days.

Thank you for your patience as we get everything running smoothly. We’re excited for a fantastic school year and look forward to partnering with you. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Otherwise, we’ll see you tomorrow!

Good afternoon, Jaguar students and families!

What a wonderful Schedule Pick-Up today! It was so much fun seeing our Jaguars back on campus, catching up with friends, and getting excited for the new school year. Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly over the past several weeks to prepare classrooms, organize schedules, and create a welcoming environment where every student can learn and thrive. We are so excited to welcome your child on Monday!

A few important notes about student schedules:

1. Schedules in Focus – If your student hasn’t picked up their schedule yet, it’s now available digitally in Focus.

2. No Focus access / No schedule – If your student cannot access Focus and doesn’t have a schedule, they should report to the Media Center upon arriving at school on Monday.

3. Schedule change requests – We are reviewing all requests and doing our best to say "yes" whenever possible. However, for a variety of reasons, some requests will need to be denied. Please know that every request is being thoughtfully considered.

4. Changes requested at pick-up – If your student submitted a change request Thursday at Schedule Pick-Up, please have them check Focus. If the schedule is unchanged by Sunday, we were not able to make the adjustment.

5. Requesting a change next week – Students who would like to request a schedule change next week should pick up a Schedule Change Request Form during their lunch.

6. After Week 1 – Any schedule change requests after the first week must be made through the Guidance Office.

We can't wait to welcome everyone on Monday. It's going to be an incredible school year, and we are so excited to partner with you to make it the best one yet! 💚💛

6th Grade: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
7th & 8th Grade: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Here’s what you need to know:

Good afternoon, Jaguar families! This is Brandon Koger, principal of Hobbs Middle School, with an important reminder about the Free and Reduced Meal Program.

One of the most important ways to prepare for the school year is to make sure your student has access to healthy meals. If your family may qualify, please apply now for free or reduced-price meals. Even if you're unsure whether you're eligible, we encourage you to apply.

Applications must be completed online at www.myschoolapps.com. If you need access to a computer or help with the application, our staff is happy to assist you at the school.

Applying is important not only for your family but also for Hobbs Middle. As a Title I school, our funding is based in part on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Those funds provide additional resources and support for all of our students.

Remember, applications expire each year, so every family must reapply annually.

If you have questions, please contact me at 850-983-5630 ext. 1046 or kogerb@santarosa.k12.fl.us. Thank you for helping us support our students!
